Result: Win
Total: 205.00 | -105.00 Over
Result: Win
This is a 10* TOTAL BIG TIGER on the UNDER between the Indiana Pacers and the Atlanta Hawks.
We don't subscribe to any one single handicapping methodology, but instead feel that being flexible with ones approach is the best way to secure profits over the longterm. Sometimes we keep it simple, while other times we'll take into account a bunch of different factors, like motivation, scheduling and significant injuries. Recognizing classic "spot bets" is something we always do as well, IE: the "look ahead" spot, the "let down" spot and the "trap" game. The actual contestants on the field of play rarely enter into our equation when making selections, unless it's a Top 3 player like a LeBron James or Aaron Rodgers etc. One set of criteria which we almost always use when making our decisions, are Against The Spread (ATS) statistics. Sometimes these stats can be overrated and other times they help foreshadow the outcome of a contest.
This particular play is based on what we feel to be two extremely important factors:
Struggling super-stars: Pacers' star Paul George is in a shooting slump right now, he's averaging just 14.5 points and shooting 30.5 percent over his last four games. Hawks' leading scorer Paul Millsap has been held to only 9.8 points and 33.8 percent shooting over his last four games.
ATS statistics: Both teams have been playing to some pretty high-scoring affairs of late, but this is indeed a spot in which each has shown a penchant to playing to the lower-number, as Indiana has seen the total go UNDER the number in four of five this season as a road dog in the 3.5 to 6 points range, in three of four after playing to three or more consecutive OVERs and in 11 of 18 after scoring 105 points or more. And note that Atlanta has seen the total dip below the posted number in four of six this year as a home fav of 3.5 to six points and in eight of 14 following a victory by ten points or more.
The bottom line: Slumping shooters combined with these extremely strong trends make the UNDER the savvy move in this contest.
