Money Line: -185.00 St. Louis (Home)
Result: Win
This is a 5* BIG-CHALK CHOKE-OUT on the St. Louis Cardinals.
The clear talent discrepancy on the mound absolutely justifies in laying this larger price, however when you also throw in the fact that the Cards are coming off a horrible effort in yesterday's 9-5 setback, there's no doubt in my mind that the home side is well worth the price of admission in this spot. The Cards turn to ace Adam Wainwright (14-7, 2.34 ERA) who would give up three runs over seven innings in his team's 3-0 loss at Miami on Tuesday. Wainwright has to be feeling pretty confident, he's dominated the Friars throughout his career, posting a minuscule 0.84 ERA over his last 15 vs. them; note that he's 5-2 with a tiny 1.20 ERA in his last seven vs. San Diego overall and was 2-0 with a 1.76 ERA against it last season. The visitors send Odrisamer Despaigne (3-3, 2.72 ERA) to the hill; Despaigne would go seven scoreless innings in a 4-1 win over the punchless Rockies on Tuesday, but note that he'd gone 0-2 with a ballooned 7.20 ERA over his previous three outings. Despaigne faced the Cards on July 31st and was shelled for a season-high six runs off nine hits over just 5 2/3's innings. All signs point to a lop-sided beatdown in my opinion, this line should in fact be a lot larger; play on ST. LOUIS.
