The set-up: The Packers and Colts kick off the 2016 NFL preseason schedule with the annual Hall of Fame game from Canton. Green Bay had its streak of four straight NFC North titles snapped last season but still made the playoffs with a 10-6 SU and 9-7 ATS record. The Packers have had each of their last two playoff runs end in OT losses and Aaron Rodgers is not getting and younger, so the time may be now. The Colts were heavy favorites to win the AFC South last year coming off three straight 11-5 SU seasons, having lost in the 2014 AFC championship game at New England (a game you may just have heard about?). Indy had a busy offseason but with Andrew Luck struggling through an injury-riddled season, the Colts ‘limped' to an 8-8 SU and ATS mark.

QB situation: We all know that starters don't play much in the first preseason game of the year and of course, this game is an extra preseason game for both teams. In fact, word is that the Packers have been complaining about the extra game and additional training camp time and there is even talk that Aaron Rodgers may not play at all. His backup, Brett Hundley is injured, and that means the Packers could be left with undrafted rookies Joe Callahan (Wesley College) and Marquise Williams (North Carolina) to see most of the action. Indy's Andrew Luck recently signed an extension with the Colts which makes him the highest paid player in NFL history. Luck is expected to start but any more than two series of action is an "out price!"
Scott Tolzien (Wisconsin) and Stephen Morris (Miami) are Luck's backups.

The pick: At first blush, a selection on the Colts seems odd, as the Colts are 1-8 SU and 2-7 ATS over their last nine preseason games but reports that the Packers are far from happy to be here and the fact that the Colts have plenty of key position battles to address this preseason, makes me side with Indy in 2016's opening game. 10* play is on the Colts.
