Both teams come in off losses Sunday as Atlanta was clobbered by the Angels, who started Reid Detmers, a guy who had seen the Angels lose his last eight starts. Ian Anderson was caught in the shuffling madness of the locomotive breath and was the all-time loser as he was tagged for five runs in the top of the first inning en route to a 9-1 beating. Meanwhile, the Phillies had a weekend to forget, getting swept by the lowly Cubs where they were outscored by a 25-6 margin while surrendering eight homers in the series. Atlanta has won four of the seven meetings this season, including two of three in the City of Brotherly Love in late June. Since starting the year 0-2 in his first two starts, Max Fried has gone 10-1 with a 2.33 ERA, six homers allowed and 100 strikeouts over 108.1 innings of work. Perhaps more importantly, the Braves have won 14 of those 17 starts. Ranger Suarez has struggled against the Braves this season, going 0-2 and giving up nine runs over 11 innings in his two starts. It's tough to have faith in a Phillies team that just made the sputtering Cubs look like a playoff contender. Take the Braves as Fried rings up his 11th win of the season.
