The Mets took care of business against the Marlins over the weekend, downing Sandy Alcantara and Pablo Lopez in the series down in South Beach. Now, they get a Washington team that has the worst record in the majors and who could well move a few veteran pieces by the trade deadline Tuesday evening. Max Scherzer gets a crack at his former team, one that is going nowhere, to keep his current team atop the NL East standings. Meanwhile, barring some sudden move, Washington counters with Patrick Corbin, who has been brutal the last few seasons. That has carried over to this year as he comes in 4-14 with a 6.49 ERA and a 1.766 WHIP over 105.1 innings in 21 starts this season. The Nationals don't generate a ton of offense and Scherzer should handcuff their weak lineup. New York should have an easy time putting this one out of reach early and cruise to the victory.
