Atlanta Braves -225
(MLB) Philadelphia vs. Atlanta,
Money Line: -225.00 Atlanta (Home)
Result: Win
This one is going to be a battle of NL East teams trying to maintain their playoff positions. Atlanta is trying to chase down the Mets while the Phillies are battling to keep their wild card spot. The problem for Philadelphia is the injuries to their pitching staff doing damage to their chances. Zach Eflin remains on the IL with a knee injury while Kyle Gibson is on the bereavement list. While the 1-2 punch of Aaron Nola and Zack Wheeler is one of the best duos in the majors, having to trot out Ranger Suarez, Bailey Falter and, in this case, Nick Nelson, doesn't move the needle. Meanwhile, Atlanta sends Spencer Strider to the hill in the opener of this set and he's been solid. In fact, he handcuffed the Phillies last Tuesday on the road in his first start since the All-Star break. He threw six innings, allowing one run on three hits with one walk and six strikeouts in a 6-3 Braves victory. Strider is 2-0 with a 1.04 ERA, a 0.692 WHIP, three walks and 11 whiffs over 8.2 innings in his two appearances, one start, against the Phillies this season. Playing at home works for Atlanta as they try to shore up things before the trade deadline. Take the Braves in this contest as they open the series on a positive note to keep pace with the Mets.
