Result: Win
While the Reds have played decent baseball the last couple months after their abysmal 3-22 start, things could start swinging in the other direction down the stretch. Luis Castillo, Tyler Mahle, Tommy Pham and Brandon Drury are all gone as the trade deadline has passed, leaving them bereft of capable starting pitchers and light on competent hitters. That's not inspiring when you still have two months remaining in the season. Then you have to add into the mix that the Reds are sending Mike Minor to the mound. He's been awful, with a 1-7 record, a 6.31 ERA, a 1.578 WHIP, 22 walks and 45 strikeouts over 51.1 innings in 10 starts. On top of those uninspiring numbers, the Reds have to contend with Sandy Alcantara, who, despite turning in his shortest outing since May 6 in his last start, is still a frontrunner for the NL Cy Young. He's 9-4 with a 1.99 ERA, a 0.944 WHIP, 39 walks and 138 strikeouts over 149.1 innings of work this season. Neither team is likely to be a massive performer at the plate but when you compare pitchers, Alcantara is clearly the better option. The Marlins get the win here after dropping the first two games of the set.
