Result: Win
We've seen the Phillies batter the Nationals in the first three games of the series this weekend. After winning 5-4 in a game that was shortened by rain to just five innings, Philadelphia clobbered five homers Friday en route to a 7-2 win. Then Saturday, the Phillies were up 6-0 after one inning and 9-0 after two as they cruised to an 11-5 win. Now, the Phillies send Aaron Nola to the mound in the finale looking to sweep the series and gain some more ground on the Braves, who were swept in a doubleheader Saturday. He is 2-1 with a 2.66 ERA, a 0.98 WHIP, three walks and 25 strikeouts over 20.1 innings in his last three starts. Nola gets to face a Washington team that dealt Juan Soto and Josh Bell at the trade deadline, thinning the power from the lineup. Washington sends Cory Abbott to the hill, who threw five scoreless against the Mets in his last start. That may have been more a factor that Jacob deGrom was pitching for the Mets, continuing their inability to provide offense when he pitches. Facing the Phillies with the way that team is hitting right now is a dangerous undertaking for the most experienced and successful pitchers. Look for Philadelphia to ride the wind, which is projected to blow to right center at about 14 miles an hour, and Nola to a victory in this contest to sweep the set.
