San Diego seemed to get things pointed in the right direction after a slow start following the big Juan Soto/Josh Bell trade last week. The Padres were swept last weekend by the Dodgers and then were blanked 1-0 Monday by the Giants, extending their slide to five games. San Diego bounced back in the final two games with the Giants, totaling 20 runs en route to winning both contests. Now they get to go on the road to the nation's capital to face a dismal Washington team that has the worst record in the majors. While Mike Clevinger hasn't been great, he did have three solid outings before his last rough showing against the Dodgers. Fortunately for Clevinger, the Nationals' lineup is nothing like the Dodgers' and that works in his favor. Meanwhile, Cory Abbott was shelled in his last outing, giving up seven runs on seven hits, including four homers, with five walks and two strikeouts over 3.2 innings in a 13-1 loss to the Phillies his last time out. Now he has to deal with the Padres. It adds up to a one-sided win for the visitors as Soto and Bell enjoy their return to the nation's capital.
