Seattle took care of business in the opening game of this series Friday night, battering Oakland to the tune of 10-2 as Eugenio Suarez went deep twice while driving in five runs. The Mariners now turn to Logan Gilbert, who has been solid most of the season but who has scuffled of late, posting a 9.39 ERA in his last three starts. A closer look shows that two of those starts were against the Yankees back when they were hitting. Oakland has had issues at the plate all season long, ranking last in the majors in runs per game and especially at home. James Kaprielian has been solid enough of late but Oakland hasn't done enough offensively to support him. That's the problem here again: Gilbert gets right after his rough stretch and the Mariners scratch out the offense necessary to put this one in the win column.
