Give the Pirates credit as they hung in on Monday in the opening game of this set at PNC Park, falling 2-1. With that said, the Pirates aren't sending the solid if unspectacular Roansy Contreras to the hill here. By the same token, the Braves aren't countering with their worst arm in Jake Odorizzi, who had his best start since coming over from Houston at the trade deadline Monday. Instead, Atlanta sends Max Fried to the hill against the Pirates' JT Brubaker, who has been awful all season. Brubaker snapped a six-start winless stretch with a win over Boston his last time out where he threw seven scoreless innings. That's the good news: the bad news is that he's still 3-10. Fried came off the concussion IL to threw seven innings against the Mets, allowing two runs on four hits with no walks and six strikeouts in a 3-2 Braves victory. It's tough to see Atlanta being neutralized on back-to-back nights by a moribund Pirates squad. Atlanta wins this one by multiple runs.
