We saw Atlanta take Monday night's opener in this series by a 5-2 count to keep pace with the Mets in the NL East race. On Tuesday night, it's a battle of veteran arms as Patrick Corbin takes the hill for Washington against Atlanta's Charlie Morton. Corbin is on pace to lead the league in losses for the second straight year as he is 6-18 with a 6.11 ERA and has allowed 27 long balls this season over the course of 147.1 innings of work in 29 starts. While Corbin has been better of late, going 2-2 with a 2.90 ERA over 31 innings in his last five starts, his FIP ERA in that stretch is 4.46, showing he's been somewhat fortunate. In addition, Corbin has sputtered mightily against the Braves this year, going 0-3 with a 9.88 ERA, a 2.415 WHIP, seven walks and 15 strikeouts over 13.2 innings in three starts. Atlanta hitters have lit him up to the tune of a .394/.452/.576 slash line in those games. Morton has struggled in run prevention of late but his loss in his last start was his only one in his last eight starts dating to the beginning of August. He beat the Nationals in his lone start against them this season on July 8. Morton threw seven innings, allowing two runs on four hits with three walks and seven strikeouts in a 12-2 Braves win. Atlanta is 51-25 at home this season and their bats are extremely dangerous. Give the Braves the upper hand as they earn another multi-run triumph.
