We're working with an extremely light slate for action Monday with only four major league games on the books along with with the Monday night game between the Cowboys and Giants. Baltimore missed a chance to sweep Houston at home over the weekend as they lost Saturday in a slugfest as they gave up the go-ahead runs in the ninth before falling in 11 innings Sunday. They open a road set here with a Red Sox team that has been eliminated from playoff contention and who were blanked in a rain-shortened game Sunday night against the Yankees. The Orioles own an 8-7 advantage in the season series and stand four games behind the Mariners for the final wild card spot with 10 games to go. That means they need to start winning and get some help. Jordan Lyles is the poster child for an average pitcher but he has gone 11-11 on the year. Meanwhile, Connor Seabold has been roughed up, going 0-3 with a 10.47 ERA, a 2.204 WHIP, six walks and 17 strikeouts over 16.1 innings in his four starts in the majors this season. Boston has nothing to play for and will continue to give young guys playing time. Baltimore knows their margin for error is thin and they put forth their best effort. The Orioles pick up a road victory here to open the series on a positive note.
