Seattle Mariners -1.5 (-115)
(MLB) Detroit vs. Seattle,
Point Spread: -1.50 | -115.00 Seattle (Home)
Result: Loss
Seattle was battered Sunday afternoon by the A's at home and find themselves in a tough situation as we enter the final series of the season for everyone. The Mariners enter Monday 2.5 games behind the Blue Jays, who own the top wild card spot, and 1.5 games ahead of Tampa Bay to avoid playing Cleveland in the first round of the postseason. Fortunately for Seattle, while Toronto and Tampa Bay lock up with other AL East foes, they get to square off with the Tigers, who have had offensive issues all season long. The Mariners send George Kirby to the hill and he's been good in the last couple of months. Since the start of August, Kirby is 6-1 with a 2.73 ERA, a 1.177 WHIP, eight walks and 55 strikeouts over 52.2 innings in 10 starts. He has a 1.60 FIP ERA in that stretch. Meanwhile, he gets to face a Tigers team that is dead last in runs per game (3.39) and 29th in run production on the road (3.32) this season. Detroit has gone 30-47 on the road and they have a dismal .227/.280/.345 slash line as the visiting team this season. With plenty at stake, the Mariners do the job at the plate and on the mound to earn the victory in this contest.
