Money Line: -125.00 NY Mets (Home)
Result: Loss
The Mets have the momentum after bouncing back from Friday's blowout Game 1 loss to the Padres. Chris Bassitt gets the call for the Mets in this one against San Diego's Joe Musgrove. Now, Musgrove was 1-0 and allowed just one run over 22 innings in his last four starts but let's not forget that he was 8-0 with a 1.59 ERA after beating the Cubs on June 16. Over his final 18 regular season starts, he was 2-7 with a 3.97 ERA and allowed 17 homers in 102 innings of work. Meanwhile, Bassitt seemed to get stronger as the season wore on. He was 7-7 with a 3.83 ERA at the end of July but went 8-2 with a 2.70 ERA while allowing only four homers over 66.2 innings in his final 11 starts. San Diego had a chance and probably should have gone with Musgrove in Game 2 but chose to go with Blake Snell. That backfired as he didn't make it out of the fourth, issuing six walks and taking a toll on the bullpen. Bassitt pitches well and the Mets' bats do enough to deliver a win here in the lone Game 3 of the wild-card round, sending them on to face the Dodgers in the NLDS.
