THE INSIDERS ROOM'S 10* PAC 12 GAME OF THE MONTH!
(NCAAF) Washington vs. California,
Money Line: 103.00 California (Home)
Result: Push
This is a 10* PAC 12 GAME OF THE MONTH on California MONEY LINE.

I like Cal at home here. With a spread like this, I'll recommend taking the Golden Bears on the MONEY LINE.

Both teams had identical records last season at 8-5 overall and 4-5 in conference action. But this is a super short season, with only six games being played in the regular season. That mean's that home field advantage, even with limited or no fans, will be important. Especially in the early going.

And that's advantage to Cal then here for sure. These teams have split the last six in the series, but the Golden Bears have taken the last two.

And that includes a 20-19 victory last September. These two teams always seem to play each other tight, so that's another reason why I am suggesting to take on the money line as well. Cal was actually a 13.5 point underdog in that contest and it won outright in 2018 over the Huskies as well as an 11.5 point underdog.

The Huskies regressed as the season went on last year, as they lost four of their final seven games. Washington did end off 2019 with a bowl win over Boise State in the Las Vegas Bowl, but with only 19 juniors and seniors combined returning to this year's team, I think Washington will struggle with consistency in the early going.

The Huskies have a new head coach in Jimmy Lake and a new quarterback in Kevin Thomson, who comes over from Sacramento State.

Cal followed a similar pattern last year actually. It dropped four of its last seven, but it bounced back in its bowl game, defeating Illinois in the RedBox Bowl.

Consistency at key positions from one year to the next helps in the transition and the Bears have a significant advantage with Chase Garbers returning under center (he appeared in nine games last year and had 1,772 passing yards, 14 touchdowns and only three interceptions.)

Cal has the better defense too, with many returning starters. Also note that Washington has struggled in this spot for bettors, going just 1-6 against the spread in its last seven as a road underdog.

Washington is in a rebuilding process and what better year to do that in than right now, this strange season in 2020.

But for Cal, it has the experience and talent to take advantage, and I expect it to do just that on opening night.

I'm laying the reasonable MONEY LINE price on the GOLDEN BEARS in this matchup.

Good luck, Nick Parsons
