The South Alabama Jaguars and the Southern Miss Golden Eagles will tussle in football action tonight. The South Alabama Jaguars had an awful season last year finishing with a 2-10 record. It was their lowest win total since joining the FBS in 2012. That included a Sun Belt Conference record of 1-7. Desmond Trotter is expected to be the quarterback after throwing for 1,900 yards with 14 TDs with 11 interceptions last year as a freshman. He will look to improve an offense that put up just 18.4 points and averaged just 330 yards in total offense. The offense has scored 17 or fewer points thirteen games over the last two seasons. They will need to find a replacement for running back Tra Minter, who rushed for 1,000 yards last season. The defense is ok but not outstanding. They return seven of their top eight tacklers.

The Southern Miss Golden Eagles finished last season at 7-6 overall and 5-3 in C-USA. The return starting quarterback Jack Abraham who threw for almost 3,500 yards to go with 19 touchdowns last season. Kevin Perkins who rushed for 547 yards last season and Trivenskey Mosley who gained 500 yards should both see time in the backfield. The defense needs to step up as the gave up over 26 points a game last season. They return seven starters on a defense that finished 1st in C-USA and 18th in the country against the run.
