I will be looking at Game 1 between the St. Louis Cardinals and the Chicago Cubs. Yesterday in Game 1 of their five-game set the Came away with a 4-1 win behind the arm of Yu Darvish. Darvish went seven strong innings allowing just one hit( a solo home run) and striking out 11 Cards hitters. homer) and 11 strikeouts. The Cubs starter for Game 1 will be Robert Alzolay. He has pitched in two games this season with one start. He has posted a 0.00 ERA in six innings and he has struck out eight. In his career, he has been in six games with three starts and has posted a 1-1 record and a .4.91 ERA.

The Cardinals will need to pick it up at the plate if they hope to gain ground on the Cubs this weekend or risk falling too far behind. St. Louis managed just two hits yesterday against the Cubs. The ards will look to get things off on the right foot in Game 1 by sending Adam Wainwright to the mound. He has made five starts this season and has gone 3-0 with a 2.65 ERA with 25 strikeouts in 34.0 innings.

Wainright has pitched well for the Cars this season. Alzolay made his first start against the Cards and had a good outing. The Cards bats need to heat up and will have a chance against the young Alzolay. Wainright will keep the Cubs off the board until the Cards bats can get going.
