After coming away with a win in Game 1, the Yankees will send rookie pitcher Deivi Garcia to the mound. This may be a bit of a surprise considering in his last two starts, he allowed 10 earned runs in just 9 ⅔ innings for a 9.31 ERA. In his last outing, he surrendered four runs on seven hits in 6 ⅔ innings against the Miami Marlins. During the season, he made six starts posting a 3-2 record with a 4.98 ERA.
The Rays will look to bounce back and even the series at a game apiece by sending Tyler Glasnow to the mound. In his postseason start, he shut down the Toronto Blue Jays giving up just two runs in six innings striking out eight and walking one. The Rays have not lost one of Glasnow’s starts since Aug. 8 winning nine games during that span, including two versus New York. In three starts against the Yankees, he is 1-1 with a 3.77 ERA. He struck out 22 batters in just 14 ⅓ frames during those matchups.
In Glasnow's last two starts against the Yankees, he has given up just four total hits in his last 11 ⅔ frames against the Yankees while striking out 17 batters during that span. Garcia has never pitched in the postseason so nerves could be a factor. I am taking the better pitcher in this one and hoping the rays bats can come through for a couple of runs.
