The Seattle Mariners go on the road to battle the Toronto Blue Jays in Game 1 of their American League Wild Card Series. The Mariners won five of seven from the Blue Jays this season. This is Seattle's first playoff series since 2001. The Mariners will turn to Luis Castillo for today's start. He started 14 games for the Reds and then was traded to the Mariners, where he made 11 more starts. He is 8-6 with a 2.99 ERA, and a 1.084 WHIP this season. In his last three starts, he is 1-1 with a 5.63 ERA, and a 1.31 WHIP. Toronto will send Alek Manoah to the mound. He finished the regular season with a 16-7 record with a 2.24 ERA, and a 0.992 WHIP. In his last three starts, Manoah is 2-0 with a 0.47 ERA, and a 0.95 WHIP. Manoah is 11-4 with a 2.41 ERA, and a 0.876 WHIP in 21 career starts at Rogers Centre. Four of the six meetings this season wound up under the number. This should be a good battle between veteran pitchers. The Mariners were solid on the road, going 44-37. Toronto has an advantage on the mound and in inexperience as slight as it may be, but more importantly, they will be playing at home.
