The NHL season kicks off today with the San Jose Sharks taking on the Nashville Predators in Prague. San Jose’s struggled on the offensive end of the ice and they didn't do much to address it in the offseason. San Jose ranked 30th in goals a game and 26th in shots a game last season.
On the defensive end, they ranked 21st in goals against and 18th in shots against a game. James Reimer posted a 19-17-10 record with a 2.90 Goals-Against-Average while Kaapo Kahkonen was 14-14-4 with a 2.87 Goals-Against-Average. Nashville was swept in the first round of the playoffs by the Colorado Avalanche. Last season, the Predators ranked 12th in goals a game and 24th in shots a game. On the defensive end of the ice, they ranked 17th in goals against and 20th in shots against a game. Netminder Juuse Saros posted a 38-25-3 record with a 2.64 Goals-Against-Average. San Jose scored two goals or less in seven straight contests against Nashville. In three games against San Jose last year, Juuse Saros was 3-0 with a 0.33 GAA giving up just one goal total in three games. The under is 4-1 in the last five meetings between these two teams.
