The Philadelphia 76ers will tip off the NBA season against a familiar face when they take on the defending Eastern Conference Champs the Boston Celtics. Boston and Philadelphia split their last 10 meetings. Harden looks like he took the season to get in shape and with the additions P.J. Tucker, Danuel House, and others and the emergence of Tyrese Maxey and a healthy Embiid the 76'er faithful have high hopes for the season. Philadelphia averaged 109.9 points a game last season and gave up 106.9 points a game.
This looked like the year of the Celtics. After coming off an NBA Final run, they were looking to ride that momentum into a Championship run this season. Before the season started, however, they suspended head coach Ime Udoka for the season, replacing him with Joe Mazzulla. Boston averaged 110.3 points a game last season and gave up 103.9, the league's best.
Last season, the Celtics were the better team on both ends of the court. Harden wasn't the Harden of old and was that due to him being out of shape or has he lost a step? He is in good shape this season so time will tell. Boston finished with the best defense in the league last season and I don't see that changing no matter who is coaching this team. The Celtics added Malcolm Brogdon for more scoring punch.

Boston allowed just 103.1 points a game at home last season. The Celtics put up 110.3 points a game last season and 109.3 points at home. In their last three games against Philly they scored 112.3 points a game. They are facing a defense that gave up 107.7 points a game on the road. Both teams played at a slow pace last season and I don't expect that to change this season. The 76ers and Celtics played under the total in three of their last five meetings. I like this game to go under the number as I think the defense will be better than the offense to start the season in this one.
