The 2024 World Series gets underway with the New York Yankees taking on the Los Angeles
Dodgers. Gerrit Cole gets the nod for the Yankees, while the Dodgers will go with Jack Flaherty. The Yankees are in the World Series for the first time since 2009. New York ranked first in home runs, third in OPS., and ninth in team batting average during the season. Gerrit Cole will make the start. He is 1-0 in the playoffs in three starts with a 3.31 ERA and 1.53 WHIP in 16.1 innings pitched. Los Angeles’ top seed in the MLB has earned them home-field advantage throughout this year’s playoffs. The Dodgers finished first in OPS, third in home runs, and fourth in team batting average. Jack Flaherty will get the start more out of necessity. In three starts this post season, he is 1-2 with a 7.04 ERA and 1.43 WHIP. He has lost a little velocity in the playoffs and I think Soto, Judge and Stanton will take advantage of it. Cole has turned in solid numbers against the Dodgers in the past. New York’s bullpen has looked excellent this postseason, posting a 2.56 ERA and 1.29 WHIP. I am going to ride Cole over Flaherty in game one.
