Jacksonville State is coming into this game off to a very good 3-1 start in their 1st ever season as an FBS team. They are also 1-0 in the conference already as they won their 1st game of the season at home against UTEP. Jacksonville State has also played 3 games at home though with all 3 of their wins coming there while their only road game this season was a loss to Coastal Carolina 30-16. They are coming off of a 21-0 win at home against Eastern Michigan in their last game but that is also the most points they have scored against an FBS opponent this year as their offense has not been great. They are going up against a Sam Houston State team that has a very good defense as well and they are going to cause problems for this Jax State offense here on the road. Sam Houston is 0-3 this season but they have also played some very tough teams in that span as they have had a much stronger schedule than Jacksonville State. The toughest team Jacksonville State has faced all season was their road loss to Coastal Carolina while Sam Houston already has 3 losses but they have also played BYU, Air Force, and Houston. BYU and Houston are both power 5 schools while Air Force has one of the best defenses in the MWC. Sam Houston also played very well defensively in those games as they held Air Force to just 13 points and BYU to 14. They did get smashed by Houston last week in a 38-7 loss but that was a bad spot for them as Houston had lost an embarrassing game at home against TCU the week before while Sam Houston was definitely looking ahead to this 1st home game of the year for them which is also their 1st conference game in FBS. Sam Houston has a very good defense and even though their offense has not done much in their first 3 games, they will have a much easier time moving the ball at home here in their 1st home game of the season. Jacksonville State is also coming up from the FCS just like Sam Houston so this is a team that Sam Houston looks at like they can beat, especially when Sam Houston was the best of all the teams coming up from FCS this season.
