#971/972 ASA TOP PLAY 10* ON Under 6.5 Runs – Washington vs NY Mets, Thursday at 7 PM ET – The Mets are starting Jacob deGrom and he has won the Cy Young 2 of the last 3 years in the National League. He is coming off a fantastic spring as he piled up 21 strikeouts and allowed just 1 earned run in his 13.2 innings of work for the Mets. The right-hander has a 2.61 ERA in his career and deGrom appears to be more and more dominant with each passing season. Also, deGrom has a history of excellence in his first start of a new season. From 2014 to 2020 he has allowed only 5 earned runs combined in 7 starts totaling 42.2 innings! The weather conditions also are likely to help the pitchers here. It will be a chilly night with a cold wind in DC tonight and the hitters will be at a disadvantage. The pitchers are set to dominate in this one and Max Scherzer takes the mound for the Nationals. He piled up 20 strikeouts and held batters to a .180 batting average in his spring training starts as he compiled 13.2 innings. Scherzer has allowed 2 earned runs or less in his first start of a year in 6 of the last 7 seasons. In fact, in those 6 starts he has allowed a total of only 6 earned runs or an average of 1 per game. Considering each of these clubs also have solid late-inning arms in the bullpens and that both these starting pitchers can work deep into a game, there is likely to be very little scoring in this one. We expect this one to get to no more than 4 or 5 runs at best. Take the UNDER.
