#373 ASA PLAY ON North Texas -12 over Florida International, Saturday at 6:30 PM ET - FIU is 1-1 on the season but we have them rated as the worst team in college football and we think they get blasted in this one. The Panthers first game of the season was a very deceiving 22-17 loss to La Tech. It should have been much worse. LT rolled up 447 total yards in the game and held FIU to just 182 yards including only 4 yards passing and only 8 first downs the entire game! That La Tech team that dominated FIU in the opener turned around last week and got blasted 38-14 and had only 240 total yards vs an SMU team that was replacing their star QB (Mordecai now at Wisconsin) and lost many key players. FIU did pick up a 14-12 win last week vs an FCS team (Maine) that had a record of 2-10 last season. Not only that, but Maine actually outgained FIU in the game and actually had the ball in FIU territory last with a chance to win. The Black Bears also had a 27-13 first down edge in that loss. North Texas got rolled by a drastically improved California team last week giving us some solid value here. UNT was only a 5 point dog in that game, 58-21 loss, vs a Pac 12 team. This is a team that was solid last year, returns 15 starters, and nearly beat Boise State in their bowl game. New HC Morris came over from Washington State where he was the OC but was also a solid head man at Incarnate Word prior to that. This team was embarrassed last week and now they take a HUGE step down in competition and they’re ready to blast someone. When these 2 met last season UNT was a 21 point favorite and won the game 52-14 outgaining FIU 623 to 258. One of FIU’s 2 TD’s in that game came on a pick 6 as well. Since the start of the 2020 season, the Panthers have a record of 3-24 vs FBS teams and 18 of those 24 losses have come by double digits. UNT bounces back this week with an easy win.
