One of baseball's biggest mysteries - if not life's biggest mysteries - is how Homer Bailey manages to stay in the big leagues.
Bailey has thrown two no-hitters. The other 99 percent of his starts have been terrible. OK, that's a cheap shot exaggeration. But this isn't. Bailey's ERA's the last four seasons are 6.09, 6.43, 6.65 and 5.56. His record since 2015 is 9-28. So he's lost 76 percent of his past 37 decisions.
It's not like Bailey is going to get bailed out by a strong bullpen either. Kansas City has one of the weakest relief corps in baseball. The Royals have been outscored by 21 runs during the final four innings this season.
The Indians are going with righthander Jefry Rodriguez, who made eight starts as a rookie with the Nationals going 2-2 with a 6.75 ERA. I'll still gladly take Rodriguez and a superior Indians bullpen at this short price. Kansas City is 1-7 the past eight times facing a righy starter.
