Result: Win
Texas has won four in a row and has its best starter, Mike Minor, on the mound. Cleveland is going with rookie Aaron Civale, who has made just one big league start.
Yet it's the Indians who are huge favorites.
Cleveland is playing its best ball winning 16 of its last 21 games. But at this heavy price, I have to take the underdog Rangers. Too much value to pass up with Minor on the hill.
Minor has held 13 of his last 17 opponents to three or fewer runs. He shut down the Indians, 4-2, at home on June 20 beating a much better pitcher than Civale in All-Star Shane Bieber. The lefthanded Minor held the Indians to one run in eight innings. Francisco Lindor, Carlos Santana and Jose Ramirez are hitting a combined .111 against Minor.
It has been seven games since the Indians last faced a southpaw. They lost to the Royals and Danny Duffy the last time they went against a lefty starter.
The Rangers have been swinging hot bats scoring at least five runs in eight of their last nine games. During this nine-game span, Texas is averaging 6.4 runs. So this should be a real challenge for the unproven Civale.
