Total: 5.00 | 104.00 Under
Result: Push
This is an 8* play on the OVER between the Carolina Hurricanes and the Nashville Predators.
Carolina has played to nine straight "unders" and suffice it to say, I think this strong trend gets broken today as this total sails above the posted number as the game comes down the stretch. Carolina has been great against the power play, but now faces a Predators team which has gone 7 for 20 over its last five games, with seven different players scoring with the man advantage during that span. Nashville certainly has to be feeling confident today, it's an NHL best 14-2-1 in front of the home town crowd this season. The Hurricanes are the league's most offensively challenged team but comes in with plenty of momentum, back-to-back 2-1 victories including Sunday's shootout victory over Boston. The Canes will have to be sharp, Nashville also plays with revenge after falling 2-1 in Carolina on December 2nd; in fact, the Hurricanes have won four straight in the series. Predators goaltender Pekka Rinne has had plenty of success against the Hurricanes in the past, but note that he comes in after allowing six goals in his team's 7-6 OT win at LA on Sunday. Note that Carolina goaltender Cam Ward has not enjoyed the same sort of success as his counterpart, he's 0-3-0 with a ballooned 3.04 GAA in three starts at Nashville. While neither teams has played to many high-scoring games of late, as mentioned off the top I think this strong trend gets bucked today, in my opinion the value is clearly on the OVER.
