Money Line: -151.00 Tampa Bay (Home)
Result: Win
This is an 6* play on the Tampa Bay Rays.
Jeff Samardzija has been a complete disaster for his new team, most recently he was shelled for six runs off ten hits and one walk over 7 1/3's innings in his team's 6-4 loss to the Tigers on Sunday. It was the second straight start in which the veteran has struggled and note that a date on the road is definitely not what the doctor ordered to get untracked as Samardzija is a poor 1-3 with a ballooned 6.00 ERA away from friendly confines this season. On the exact opposite end of the spectrum as far as performance on the mound is concerned is Chris Archer (7-4, 1.84 ERA) who went seven frames, striking out 11 in his team's 3-1 win over the Mariners on Sunday: "I'm just getting more comfortable with my stuff -- understanding myself, understanding the opposing team, again, trusting my defense," Archer said. "We made some great plays today. … We were in sync." Archer is just 2-4 at home, but with a highly respectable 2.81 ERA thus far. As the regular season wares on, these are the types of mismatches that must be taken advantage of, "recent performance" always plays a part in MLB handicapping process and there's no question which starter today has the advantage in this important department; lay the price with confidence on the RAYS.
