The visitors hand the ball to Kyle Gibson who was shelled for five runs in Wednesday's 7-2 loss to the Royals, the right-hander has now given up nine earned runs over his past two outings and note that he's just 1-2 with a 3.82 ERA on the road and a poor 1-2 with a pedestrian 3.99 ERA in all "day" games. The home side counters with Michael Wacha (8-2, 2.45 ERA), who despite striking out a season-high ten batters over 6 2/3's innings, would go on to lose to the Rockies on Tuesday. Wacha has to be feeling pretty confident in bouncing back here though, not only is he 2-1 with a 3.24 ERA in front of the home town crowd, but he's also 3-0 with a minuscule 0.84 ERA in all "day" games this season. For the most part MLB handicapping comes down to the starting pitching and in this case, I have no problem at all laying the price on this high percentage winner; play on the CARDINALS.
