1* Free Play UNDER Pirates/Nationals.
I had a free play on the UNDER on Friday's game between the Pirates and Nationals as well, but that selection was VOIDED with the pitching change. However, Max Scherzer will get the start today instead and he's throwing opposite veteran Francisco Liriano and suffice it to say, when the smoke clears at the end of this one, I'm expecting this total to stay below the posted number as well. Liriano (4-5, 2.94 ERA) would not give up and earned run in Monday's 11-0 win over the White Sox, going eight frames and striking out 12; note that it was the third time this season and second consecutive start in which Liriano has been able to go eight innings (and note that Liriano is 2-1 with a tiny 1.52 ERA on the road this year). Scherzer (7-5, 1.93 ERA) would throw a shutout as well in Sunday's 4-0 win over the Brewers, going the full nine frames and striking out a career-high 16 batters in the process (note that Scherzer owns a very respectable 2.68 ERA home record this season). No need to overanalyze this one, "recent performance" plays a big part in my MLB handicapping process and there's no question at all that these two competent hurlers come into tonight's game on top form; consider a second look at the UNDER in this one.
