The visitors hand the ball to Kyle Gibson (9-9, 3.84 ERA) who gave up three runs off five hits over six innings in a no-decision vs. the White Sox on Thursday. Gibson has looked decent of late, but note that this is a spot in which the big man has struggled in this season, going 3-5 with a ballooned 4.90 ERA in all road games thus far. The home side counters with Edinson Volquez (12-7, 3.53 ERA) who comes in off a rare poor effort on Thursday vs. the Tigers, giving up six runs off eight hits over just three innings of work. No need to hit the panic button if you're a Volquez fan though obviously, the hard-throwing right-hander has given up more than three runs just three times in his last 12 starts and there's no question that he'll be feeling pretty confident in this spot as he's 7-3 with a respectable 3.48 ERA in front of the home town crowd this season. We primarily base our MLB picks on starting pitching, "situations," motivation and scheduling and in this case, the overwhelming factors working in favor of Volquez and the ROYALS are too good to turn down in our opinion.
