Point Spread: 1.50 | -135.00 Pittsburgh (Home)
Result: Win
This is an 8* RUN-LINE DESTRUCTION on the Pittsburgh Pirates.
The visitors hand the ball to Jake Arrieta (19-6, 1.99 ERA) who comes in off another strong outing on Friday vs. the Phillies, giving up one run off six hits over eight innings, walking two while also striking out seven. Arrieta has not allowed an earned run in his last five starts spanning 37 innings and has been particularly effective on the road this year, going 12-1 with a tiny 1.72 ERA to date. The home side counters with AJ Burnett (8-5, 3.14 ERA) who gave up three runs off three hits over five innings, walking two and striking out three in a no-decision vs. the Brewers on Thursday. It was Burnett's first start since returning from the DL and the only runs the veteran allowed came on a three-run home run. Note that Burnett has to be feeling pretty confident in this spot as he's posted a highly respectable 2.33 ERA in front of the home town crowd this season.
We made a play on the Pirates in Game 1 yesterday, Chicago would then rally to take Game 2. Game 1 was 5-4, while Game 2 was 2-1. We're expecting another closely contested affair on Wednesday, while Arrieta gets the nod on the bump, the Pirates get the nod at the plate and have a clear advantage of playing in front of the home town crowd. While we wouldn't be surprised by an outright victory, we'll lay the short-price for the extra 1.5 runs of insurance; play on the PIRATES on the RUN-LINE.
