Point Spread: -1.50 | -116.00 LA Angels (Home)
Result: Loss
This is an 8* RUN-LINE DESTRUCTION on the LA Angels.
The Angels continue to make their push towards the postseason and seek their eighth straight win tonight, beating Oakland 8-1 in yesterday's opener. LA is now a half-game in front of the Astros for the AL's second wild card spot. The home side has to be feeling pretty confident with sending the surging Garrett Richards (15-11, 3.73 ERA) to the mound, he enters this contest having won his last two decisions, posting a highly respectable 2.87 ERA in the process. Richards himself has to be feeling pretty comfortable vs. his opponent as well as he's posted a 2.37 ERA in his last three vs. the A's. Oakland comes in with zero momentum having dropped nine of ten and four in a row away from home and now turns to veteran Barry Zito (0-0, 18.00 ERA) who will be making his final start of his career, coming in on three days rest after getting shelled for four runs off six hits over two innings in a 14-10 loss to the Giants on Saturday. Zito is an unremarkable 12-11 with a pedestrian 4.14 ERA over his last 30 starts vs. the Angels (not surprisingly, many of the Angels' sluggers have feasted off of Zito over the years, Albert Pujols is 8 for 20 with three homers lifetime against him. Mike Trout is 3 for 3 with two doubles, and Erick Aybar is 4 for 6). With a pivotal series vs. Texas on deck, LA can ill afford to "look past" these remaining "cream puffs," we look for the home side to jump out to an early lead to keep the foot on the gas into the latter innings, lay the 1.5 runs on the ANGELS.
