The visitors hand the ball to Jake Arrieta (21-6, 1.82 ERA) who gave up one hit over seven innings to go along with seven K's in a 4-0 win over the Pirates on Sunday. Arrieta owns a ridiculous 0.80 ERA in the 2nd half of the season and has to be feeling pretty confident in this position as he's a sparkling 12-1 with a tiny 1.68 ERA on the road this year. The home side counters with Ariel Pena (2-0, 3.91 ERA) who gave up three runs off six hits and a walk in a no-decision vs. the Cards on Friday, while also striking out five. Pena has been a pleasant surprise as the rookie fights for a position on next year's rotation, he's now gone five innings exactly in four straight starts and has not given up more than three runs in any of them (note that he's also 1-0 with a highly respectable 2.70 ERA at home thus far). With these two surging starters going head-to-head on Friday night, there's no question that the UNDER becomes worthy of a second look in this particular matchup.
