This is a 10* TOTAL RED DRAGON on the OVER between the Orlando Magic and the Cleveland Cavaliers.
While we are primarily a situationally based handicapping service, we don't prescribe to any one single methodology, but instead feel that being flexible with ones approach is the best way to secure profits over the longterm. Sometimes we keep it simple, while other times we'll take into account a bunch of different factors, like motivation, scheduling and significant injuries. Recognizing classic "spot bets" is something we always do as well, IE: the "look ahead" spot, the "let down" spot and the "trap" game. The actual contestants on the field of play rarely enter into our equation when making selections, unless it's a Top 3 player like a LeBron James or Aaron Rodgers etc. One set of criteria which we almost always use when making our decisions, are Against The Spread (ATS) statistics. Sometimes these stats can be overrated and other times they help foreshadow the outcome of a contest.
This particular play is based on a couple of different factors:
- Motivation: Orlando has lost 12 straight in this series and comes in off a 103-91 setback at Washington on Friday: "Teams are going to try and punk us," Magic guard Victor Oladipo said last night. "They're going try to be physical, they're going to try to push us around, bully us. We can't let that happen."
- Downright domination: Cleveland has its two highest percentage shooting contests vs. Orlando already this year, going 53.1 percent in a 117-103 victory on November 23rd and then a 56.9 percent outing in a 111-76 rout on December 11th.
- On The Up Tick: Despite falling last time out, the Magic have in fact been playing a lot better of late, having won seven of their last ten overall.
- ATS Stats: Note that Orlando has seen the total go OVER the number in six of nine in revenging a home loss vs. an opponent, while Cleveland has seen the total sail above the posted number in 11 of its last 19 after paling three consecutive road games.
The bottom line: In our professional opinion, this number is just a little low, play on the OVER.
