This is an 8* play on the OVER between the LA Lakers and the Utah Jazz.
While we are primarily a situationally based handicapping service, we don't prescribe to any one single methodology, but instead feel that being flexible with ones approach is the best way to secure profits over the longterm. Sometimes we keep it simple, while other times we'll take into account a bunch of different factors, like motivation, scheduling and significant injuries. Sometimes these stats can be overrated and other times they help foreshadow the outcome of a contest.
This particular play is based on a few different factors:
Both highly motivated: Both teams will obviously be extremely motivated, the Jazz are in the midst of a 2-5 stretch, including a 103-101 home loss to Sacramento on Thursday. The Lakers are just 9-32 and will be looking to avenge an 86-74 setback to these very Jazz at the Staples Center on Sunday.
ATS statistics: Note that the Lakers have seen the total go OVER the number in four of six road games this year as an underdog in the 6.5 to nine points range and in 12 of 22 following a loss by ten points or more, while Utah has seen the total sail above the posted number in three of five this season off an upset loss as a favorite and interestingly in five of eight vs. the Pacific division.
The bottom line: Two highly motivated clubs backed by some extremely strong trends, all signs do indeed point to the OVER as the savvy move in this contest.
