(NFL) Oakland vs. Baltimore,
Point Spread: -3.50 | -110.00 Baltimore (Home)
Result: Loss
Oakland: The Raiders haven't made the playoffs since 2002 (lost that season to the Bucs in the Super Bowl) but expectations are high in 2016 for the 2-1 Raiders, although the AFC West also features the Broncos (3-0) and Chiefs (2-1). Oakland is second in total offense (436.0 YPG) and the team's 26.7 PPG average ranks 8th. QB Derek Carr was Oakland's second pick in the 2014 draft, getting chosen 36th overall. He entered the 2016 season as a star, after throwing for 3987 yards with 32 TDs and just 13 INTs last year. However, Carr (66.9% with 5 TDs and 1 INT) has suddenly become bolstered by a running game which is second-best in the NFL through three weeks, averaging 148.3 YPG on a hard-to-believe 5.9 YPC. Remember, Oakland ranked 28th in rushing last year (91.1 YPG), after finishing dead-last in Carr's rookie season, at 77.5 YPG.

Baltimore: In contrast to Oakland's playoff drought, the Ravens hired John Harbaugh in 2008, the same year they drafted Joe Flacco. That combo (and a ferocious defense) led to five straight postseason appearances, with the Ravens capping the 2012 season with a Super Bowl win. However, Baltimore has missed the postseason in two of the last three years, including its first losing season under Harbaugh in 2015 (5-11). Are the good times back for Baltimore? The Ravens have opened 3-0 for the third time in franchise history (2006 and 2009) but those wins have come by only a combined 13 points and against teams that have also opened with a cumulative 1-8 mark. Baltimore's offense has scored only four TDs, while averaging a modest 324.3 YPG (25th). However, the team's "D" has picked up the slack, allowing the second-fewest yards of any team (254.3 YPG) and just 14.7 PPG (4th-best).

The pick: Recent history says Baltimore is just 1-7-1 ATS its last nine as a home favorite but just maybe, 2016 is the Ravens' year. A blocked field goal, late-game turnover and clutch kicks by Justin Tucker have allowed the Ravens to survive each week so far. Remember, defense wins championships and the play here says Baltimore moves to 4-0. The ravens are a 10* play.
