Result: Win
The set-up: A pair of struggling teams and goaltenders square off Wednesday night, when the 5-9-0 Arizona Coyotes visit the 6-10-1 Calgary Flames. Arizona netminder Louis Domingue is 4-8-0 with a 3.43 GAA and .899 save percentage, filling in for the injured Mike Smith. Word is that Smith is ready to return and Coyotes head coach Dave Tippett said one would start tonight and the other Thursday night in Vancouver. Brian Elliott will likely start in net for Calgary against Arizona, after Chad Johnson posted his fifth career shutout Tuesday. Elliott is 3-8-0 with a3.36 GAA and .882 save percentage on the season.

Arizona: The Coyotes haven't played since dropping a 2-1 decision to the Boston Bruins at home on Saturday night but received some good news on Tuesday when Tippett said he expects that center Martin Hanzal and goalie Mike Smith will return to action during their quick road trip to play the Flames in Calgary on Wednesday and the Canucks in Vancouver the next night. "They're both going to accompany us on the trip," Tippett told Fox Sports Arizona on Tuesday. "Both of them had a good, hard practice again today. If there are no repercussions tomorrow morning and they're ready to go, we'll put 'em in." Smith hasn't played since Oct. 18, a span of 12 games, since sustaining an injury to his left knee, while Hanzal has missed the past six contests with an upper-body injury.

Calgary: The Flames scored just one goal last night against the Wild but goalie Chad Johnson made it stand up, stopping all 27 shots he faced. The win over Minnesota snapped a four-game losing streak for Calgary. Calgary's lone winning streak this season was when it won three in a row from Oct. 24-28 that featured victories at Chicago and St. Louis on consecutive nights and a home triumph over Ottawa.

The pick: Calgary's played better on the road than at home so far this season but was a decent 21-16-4 on home ice last year. As for Arizona, the Coyotes were 13-24-4 on the road last season and it's been more of the same so far this year, as the team is 2-6-0 on the road to open the season, allowing 4.25 goals per game. Calgary is an 8* play.
