(NFL) Indianapolis vs. NY Jets,
Point Spread: 2.00 | -110.00 NY Jets (Home)
Result: Loss
The set-up: The 5-6 Indianapolis Colts expect Andrew Luck will return from a concussion and start Monday night against the 3-8 New York Jets. Indy got good news Sunday when the Texans lost in Green Bay and with a win, the Colts would tie Houston and Tennessee atop the AFC South at 6-6, with the Texans coming to Indianapolis next Sunday. As for the Jets, it will be a fifth straight missed postseason.

Indianapolis: Luck missed nine games with rib injuries last year and after the Colts won the first two without him, they would go 2-5 without him as their starter the last seven games. The Colts finished at 8-8 and out of the postseason but 8-8 (maybe 9-7) should be good enough to win the AFC South here in 2016. The Colts started 1-3, featuring close defeats to the Lions and Jaguars. Indianapolis then won four of five but without Luck Thanksgiving night at home against Pittsburgh, it did not go well in a 28-7 loss. Luck's most trusted target is T.Y. Hilton, who sustaining a back injury against the Steelers. However, he's expected back here and that great news (60 catches for 942 yards with 5 TDs). There is nothing great about the Colts defensive this year, as Indy allows 27.4 PPG (28th) on 395.0 YPG (30th).

NY Jets: The Jets' QB situation is driving headlines like with the Colts but for different reasons. Fans are clamoring for Bryce Petty (second season out of Baylor) to start but Jets coach Todd Bowles said Ryan Fitzpatrick will start despite the team's 3-8 record. Fitzpatrick has struggled most of this season by throwing 13 interceptions in 10 games, after he had 31 TD passes and only 15 interceptions in 2015. Petty started Nov. 13 and threw for 163 yards in New York's 9-6 loss to the Los Angeles Rams. Fitzpatrick returned to the starting job and completed 22 of 32 passes with two TD in Sunday's 22-17 loss to the New England Patriots when the team opted for a conservative game plan on dump offs and short passes. "It's not about Bryce and it's not about Fitz, it's about our team trying to win ball games," Jets coach Todd Bowles said Monday. "Right now, Fitz is our starter. He gives us a good chance to win." The Jets haven't scored well on a regular basis (17.8 PPG ranks 28th) and the defense is mediocre, at best (24.2 PPG ranks 20th and 348.7 YPG ranks 15th).

The pick: The Jets look ‘dead in the water' and with a win, the Colts are right back in the AFC South race. Advantage Colts, right? I'm not so sure. It's a MNF home game and the Jets should be pumped plus Luck has struggled in two career meetings with New York, posting an 0-2 record with just one TD pass and five interceptions while being sacked four times. As for Fitzgerald, his ugly games (and there have been many) have come almost exclusively on the road. He owns a 26-11 TD-to-INT ratio in home games in his one-plus season with the Jets. New York is a 10* play.
