The Red Sox and Yankees reversed expectations in the first half of the season, with Boston overachieving and Yankees struggling. Both teams finished the half with equal records of 5-5 in their last ten games. Which team will come out firing on all cylinders to start the run to the pennant?
Two lefties are on the mound. Rodriguez won against the Yankees last time out, but has been uneven all season. At 3-4, with an ERA 5.70, he has been poor when pitching on the road.
Montgomery at 3-4, ERA of 4.16 would appear to have not fared much better, but the Yankees are 11-6 when he is on the mound.
Of note: Both bullpens have struggled of late. The Yankees relievers in particular have had some serious melt downs. Boston has much the better offense in the first half. The Yankees, this season, have thrived on night games.
My wager.
Both teams have had the break to regroup. The Yankees have much more at stake and will be motivated with the fresh start. I like Montgomery as the starter, and the Yankees’ success with him on the mound. I am looking for their pen to rebound. I am taking the Yankees to WIN.
