(MLB) Washington vs. St. Louis,
Money Line: -115.00 St. Louis (Home)
Result: Loss
To me Max Scherzer looks tired. He was 0-3 with a 6.43 ERA in August, one of the worst months of his career.
He is facing Mike Wacha who is tough as nails at home. Wacha is 6-2 with a 2.43 ERA in 11 starts at home and has finished at least six innings in 20 of his 25 starts.
St. Louis is dominant at home overall, and in home games against right-handers where they're 40-11 in their last 51. Michael Wacha takes the mound tonight and he owns a miserly 0.79 ERA & 0.66 WHIP in 22 2/3 IP against Washington. As reported, Bryce Harper, Anthony Rendon, Ian Desmond, and Jayson Werth are a combined 4 of 30 against the Cardinal righty. The Cards have been outstanding all season.
Scherzer has allowed 17 earned runs, 33 base runners, and 7 home runs in his last four starts (all losses), spanning 22 IP. That's a hefty 6.95 ERA & 1.50 WHIP, with a 2.86 HRs per 9 IP ratio. The Nats are not only on a 0-4 slide with Scherzer on the mound, but they've won just four of their last 21 against teams with a winning record. Take STL here on Wednesday night.
