Cleveland Guardians -1.5 (-105)
(MLB) Detroit vs. Cleveland,
Point Spread: -1.50 | -105.00 Cleveland (Home)
Result: Win
The Tigers took two of the first three games of this series, prevailing in the nightcap of the doubleheader Monday evening before getting to Zach Plesac early Tuesday night en route to a 4-3 win. We've talked a lot before about the Guardians' reticence to put runs on the board when Plesac pitches and that trend continued. On the plus side, Cal Quantrill is the antithesis of Plesac in the run support department as Cleveland averages 5.56 runs per game when he pitches, including six-plus runs in 12 of his 22 starts. Since July 11, Quantrill is 5-0 with a 3.27 ERA, a 1.065 WHIP, eight walks and 31 strikeouts over 41.1 innings of work in seven starts. More importantly, Cleveland has won all seven of those outings. Detroit still is the league's worst offense on the road and boasts a pathetic .210/.263/.329 slash line as the visitors this season. I have no faith in Daniel Norris keeping Cleveland in check here, given his horrific numbers on the season and the fact that he has a spot in the rotation partially because Tarik Skubal is out for the year. Quantrill does the job and the Guardians' bats put up the offense to carry Cleveland to a split.
