Money Line: -111.00 San Diego (Home)
Result: Loss
We’ve talked before about the splits for Yu Darvish, who has been average on the road but nearly unhittable within the confines of Petco Park this season. Fortunately for the Padres, they’re the home team for this contest, which plays to Darvish’s strengths. He’s gone 4-1 with a 1.75 ERA, a 0.73 WHIP, eight walks and 45 strikeouts over 46.1 innings of work while recording a quality start in each of his seven outings at Petco Park this year. When your worst start at home spans six innings where you give up three runs on seven hits with one walk and nine strikeouts, you’re doing pretty well. San Francisco has sputtered of late, losing seven of eight entering Friday’s tilt. Carlos Rodon pitches quality ball at home but we saw his struggles on the road again when he took the L against the Diamondbacks Monday. He’s just 3-4 with a 3.46 ERA, a 1.10 WHIP, 16 walks and 56 strikeouts over 52 innings with four quality starts in nine road outings. The Giants are only 3-6 in Rodon’s nine road starts and with as well as Darvish has pitched at home, you have to back the hosts in this contest.
