The Michigan State Spartans are on the road to face the Iowa Hawkeyes Saturday afternoon. Michigan State looked awful in their opening game loss to Rutgers but bounced back in a big way knocking off #13 Michigan 27-24 on the road. Iowa has lost two in a row after last week's 21-20 loss at home to Northwestern. The Spartans passing offense is 16th in the nation with 321 yards a game. Michigan State has struggled running the ball, averaging just 88 yards a game. They are putting up 27 points a game and the defensive is giving up 31 points a game. The offense is led by quarterback Rocky Lombardi with 642 passing yards with six touchdowns and two interceptions. The rushing attack is led by Jordon Simmons with 98 yards. Connor Heyward has added 46 yards. Ricky White leads the receivers with nine catches for 201 yards and a touchdown. Jalen Nailor has eight catches for 152 yards and a touchdown.
Iowa has played two tough games to start the season but has been unable to find a way to win in either of them. ed them in losses to Purdue and Northwestern. The Hawkeyes are 48th in the country with 240.5 yards a game and 69th in rushing with 136 yards. The offense is putting up 20 points a game and they are giving up 22.5 points a game on the defensive side. The offense is led by Spencer Petras with 481 yards with one touchdown and three picks. The rushing attack is led by Mekhi Sargent with 91 yards and a touchdown with Tyler Goodson leads the team with 120 yards plus a score. Tight end Sam LaPorta has 11 catches for 117 yards and Ihmir Smith-Marsette has added seven catches for 84 yards. Smith-Marsette’s status was arrested for operating a vehicle under the influence Saturday and his game status is up in the air.
Which team will show up Saturday is the question. The Spartans turned the ball over 7 times against Rutgers but did not turn the ball over against Michigan. Iowa has played great in the first half but has failed to show up in the second. I think this will be a close game with points coming at a premium. Take the points in this one.
