The Tennessee Volunteers host the Pitt Panthers to Rocky Top on Saturday for an ACC-SEC tilt. The Pitt Panthers are coming off a 51-7 mauling of UMass in their opener. Kenny Pickett threw for 272 yards with a touchdown. Rodney Hammond Jr. led the rushing attack with 45 yards while Pickett added 39 yards. The team put up five rushing touchdowns in the game. The Pitt defense manhandled the UMass offense in all phases of the game.
The Tennessee Volunteers are coming off a 38-6 win over Bowling Green in their opener. Michigan Transfer Joe Milton III threw for 140 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 44 yards and two scores on the ground. Tiyon Evans and Jabari Small each had 116 rushing yards and a touchdown. Bowling Green couldn’t get much done against the Vols defense. .
Both teams like to run the ball and it just so happens that both these teams are great against the run on defense. Pitt pretty much stymied the rushing attack and the quarterback for UMass. I am not sold on Milton and the offense for the Vols. The defense though cannot be doubted so far as they held Bowling Green to just 219 total yards and no touchdowns. I am seeing a lot of running plays and short passes and time-consuming drives on both sides. I see the defenses outshining the offenses in this one.
