Purdue is coming into this game with a 5-0 record this season and they are ranked number 2 in the country as well. They are coming off of 2 straight wins against ranked teams as they beat Gonzaga by 10 in the 1st round of this tournament and followed up with a 4 point win against Tennessee in their last game. Purdue struggled a lot in those 2 wins though as their win against Gonzaga was a game they were trailing at half and had to come back in while their win against Tennessee yesterday was a real grinder as the Tennessee defense was an issue for Purdue the entire game. Purdue had no answer for the Tennessee defense at times and in both of their games against Tennessee and Gonzaga, they had periods of scoring droughts where they could not sink a shot. Purdue also struggled from the line and that is going to be a big issue going forward. They are going up against a Marquette team that is also 5-0 this season and they struggled in their game against UCLA as they had to come back and only won by 2 points, but they also dominated Kansas in their last game who is the number 1 team in the country, beating Kansas by 10+ points in a game they dominated from start to finish with the lead. Marquette was a very good team last season that probably overperformed a little but now they are returning over 80% of their team this year and they are hungry to improve even more, using this tournament as their way to make a statement. Purdue will find a way to get themselves into trouble here like they did in their last 2 games while Marquette comes out with a point to prove against the number 2 team in the country. Marquette will cover the spread in this game.
