James Madison is coming into this game with a 3-2 record this season and there have been some big changes to this program. They had a very good team last season at 32-4 and 15-3 in their conference, but now they are in the 1st season of a new head coach and they are not returning many players from last season either. They were a much better team last season as they even started the season 14-0, but now they have 2 losses in their first 5 games as they struggle to find their new identity. They have a 10 point win at home over Ohio, a big win against a team that does not play in Division I, and they are coming off of an 18 point win in a neutral location against Illinois Chicago in their last game. Their losses came against Norfolk State by 10+ points on the road and against Towson by 4 points on the road which are not quality losses. They are going up against a UC San Diego team that is 3-2 this season and they are also coming off of a good season. They were 21-12 last season with a 15-5 record in the conference, but they are returning their head coach this season as well as some of their starters from last year so this team will be looking to step up this year and build on that good season last year. Their last loss came at home against Seattle by 13 points which was not a great loss, but their other loss came on the road against a quality team in San Diego State, and they only lost that game by 5 points. They have wins against Pepperdine, Sacramento State, and La Salle with 2 of those wins coming by 10+ points. UC San Diego had a good defense last season which was averaging under 70 points allowed per game, ranking in the top 100 of the country, and their defense has picked up right where they left off last year as they have allowed 67 points or less in 3 of their 5 games. James Madison is still trying to find their rhythm with a new head coach and new lineup and their defense has not been great as they have allowed 78+ points in 3 of their 4 games against Division I opponents. UC San Diego will cover the spread in this game.
