The two best QBs in the Sun Belt face off in this game. Louisiana’s Ben Woolridge has thrown for 1,785 yards along with 15 TDs and 4 interceptions. For Texas State, Jordan McCloud is the reigning Sun Belt player of the year and has been stellar for the Bobcats, passing for 1,891 yards while adding another 217 yards on the ground with 25 total touchdowns.
Defensively, the Cajuns have struggled all season and have been especially vulnerable against the run. And while McCloud gets all the press, the Bobcats have three running backs who all average north of 5.3 ypc. This is a very well-balanced Texas State offense and I expect them to mix it up and keep Louisiana off balance all night long.
Texas State has a very aggressive defense that often leaves their DBs on an island, leaving them vulnerable to big plays. They have also struggled against dual-threat quarterbacks. In the Bobcats’ three losses, Arizona State’s Sam Leavitt, Sam Houston’s Hunter Watson, and Old Dominion’s Colton Joseph combined for 256 rushing yards and six touchdowns, with Watson and Joseph both running for over 100 yards on the ground. Wooldridge isn’t a classic dual threat but he can run when he needs and has scored five TDs on the ground this season.
I think this is going to be a fun game between two of the Sun Belt’s top teams with plenty of offensive fireworks.
